Todd A. Marquardt

Owner and Managing Attorney

Todd built the Marquardt Law Firm as a sole proprietorship on November 30, 2009 and converted to a Professional Corporation in 2011.

Marquardt received his bachelor's degree in government from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico earned his Juris Doctorate at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. It's no surprise, then, that he has chosen to run his practice across these two states, splitting his time between offices in Texas and New Mexico.

Todd worked for the Social Justice Clinic at St. Mary University School of Law as a Student Attorney for one year. During that time, he represented clients in divorce, child custody, and won an appeal with Social Security. Following law school and the Texas Bar Exam, Todd worked in a law office focusing on guardianship, a litigation law firm, and helped build a sole practitioner build an estate planning firm to six attorneys with comparable support staff.

Todd is the sole owner and managing attorney of Marquardt Law Firm, P.C. He built the law firm to accommodate clients so that people who need legal services have an advocate who is approachable and accessible. In order to do provide the best service, Marquardt Law Firm, P.C. has hired smart and compassionate team members who walk with clients through their legal issues. Todd relentlessly pursues excellence to make sure clients know the law firm is going above and beyond for them.

Marquardt's has developed a strong referral network throughout the legal industry. When potential clients come to him with legal issues outside the areas in which he focuses, he introduces those in need to an attorney Todd knows can handle their unique issue. Todd’s goal is to never close the door on a relationship, whether the final answer lies within his office or elsewhere.

A family man and small business owner himself, Marquardt's mission is to help adult children care for their elderly parents and to advocate for business owners. Marquardt's wife and he are the proud parents of two sons and a daughter. Todd’s mission is to serve God by leading his family, vocation, community and country with the gifts and talents God has given him. He enjoys golfing, watching baseball, and hunting. He is a member of the Rotary Club, active in his church, and involved with the San Antonio Coalition for Veterans.

Marquardt is a licensed member of the State Bar Associations of Texas, New Mexico, and San Antonio, as well as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc. and the United States Bankruptcy Court of the Western District of Texas. He is an accredited attorney with the Office of Veterans Affairs and Marquardt Law Firm is an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau.

J.K. Ivey, J.D.

Court Room Litigation Attorney

A native Texan, J. K. Ivey earned a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He completed his education at the University of Texas School of Law in 1985, where he was named to the Board of Advocates and Phi Delta Phi honor fraternity. J. K. has devoted his career to representing the victims of negligence and their families with several prominent Texas firms. He has recovered millions for his clients, including verdicts and settlements against some of the largest corporations in America. In 1994, J. K. was Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

A published author, and frequent lecturer, J. K. served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association and the Houston Trial Lawyers Foundation. In 2001, he was given the DTLA's highest honor, the Atticus Finch Award, for "preserving justice for all." J. K. has Martindale Hubbell's highest rating, AV, for legal skills and ethics. He is rated "10" or superb by the online lawyer service Avvo.

J. K. is active in the San Antonio, Dallas, Texas, and American Trial Lawyers Associations. He chaired a Dallas Bar Association subcommittee. He is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives. J. K. leads a general negligence injury team, devoted to personal injury, wrongful death, and social security claimants’ representation.

Mr. Ivey will lead our litigation section. He is board certified in personal injury, but he has the heart of a general practitioner. Brittany L. Lastition, Esq

Associate Attorney

Recently relocated to the San Antonio area from Florida Ms. Lastition has a passion for helping families prepare legal plans that will work for their family when it is needed most. Ms. Lastition has learned first-hand the devastating effect that poor legal planning can have on a family and will work daily toward Marquardt Law Firm, P.C.’s vision to become the preeminent, regional asset protection and wealth preservation law firm.

A graduate of the University of Florida in 2008 Ms. Lastition received her Law Degree in 2016 from the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. Ms. Lastition has worked in the legal field since 2004 at one time working closely with and representing disabled veterans fighting for their disability benefits from the Veterans Administration. Malia Ploetz

Associate Attorney

Malia decided to become an attorney because while approaching the inevitable crossroads that most candidates for graduation encounter at the end of their four-year sojourn of learning and adventure as a university comes to an end...she was given the option by her parents to continue with graduate studies or seek employment. No surprise there. Her best opportunities at the time were: entering into the world of diplomatic foreign service (She was a double major in Political Science and International Affairs and one test away from becoming a black belt in karate), or managing (and hopefully, eventually owning) a woman’s fashion boutique, or going to law school and becoming an attorney. While it may seem to be the less glamorous choice, she nevertheless, chose to attend law school. She chose to become an attorney because it fit her the best. She wanted to be of service to people. She has a strong desire to help the elderly and the young and everyone in between. Being an attorney in the Estate Planning arena allows her to be of service in getting her clients’ affairs in order and giving her clients peace of mind. This is very personal to her on so many levels as she has had to put her career on hold for a few years to be a caretaker for her elderly – and disabled - parents. She know the struggles all too well.

She really enjoys writing. And, as a Drafting Attorney at Marquardt Law Firm, she feels very fortunate to be able to draft estate plans to help others preserve and protect their family legacy. By combining her love for writing with her love for serving others through the legal profession, she gets to have the best of both worlds.

Malia is passionate about God and the spiritual peace and calmness that her faith gives her. She loves her family. Family time is a favorite time of hers. When her husband, four daughters, son-in-law, three grandchildren, and mother are all together…it feels like the closest thing to heaven to her! Whether they are fishing on their boat (actually her husband does the fishing and she is really good at riding on the boat), walking on the beach, or just hanging around at home…those are the best of times for her.

She loves her country. Growing up a military brat (and yes, it was an exciting life, moving every 4 years and living all over the world), she is so proud of our military. Being selected to represent Fort Sam Houston as Miss Fort Sam Houston in 1984 was one of the highlights in her life.

Lori L. Logan

Leader of First Impressions

Lori started with Marquardt Law Firm, P.C. in August 2014. Lori is a graduate of San Antonio Community College with an Associates of Correctional Science majoring in Criminal Justice. Lori began her career in helping individuals at Diamond Shamrock Corporation and served as a Store Manager for nine years. She assisted employees and all guests to ensure that their needs were taken care of. Lori departed Diamond Shamrock to continue her administrative career with Lone Star Pets Supply, where she worked as a Billing Clerk and eventually advanced to the accounting department. She served as the Accounts Payable and Administration Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer at Lone Star Pets Supply before taking a position as the Executive Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer at Pet Expo Online.

Lori realized her natural gift and talent for helping others and decided to venture to the city of Austin to work as the Administrative Assistant for Senior Citizens in the Old Bakery. Due to the needs of her aging mother, Lori left Austin in order to take care of her, and was employed by the City of Live Oak as the utility Billing Clerk. Lori’s true passion is to help others ensure that their assets and their loved ones are taken care of, which is what brought her to our firm not long after!

A deep passion for animals led Lori to become a member of the Humane Society and she has also served as the Secretary for the Live Oak Humane Society. She continues spreading her joy and love in the community by visiting seniors and entertaining them with card games. Lori’s extensive background for helping others and her attention to detail makes her a valuable assist at our firm.

Tyrone S. Marquardt

Office Manager

Tyrone joined Marquardt Law Firm, P.C. in December of 2014 and currently serves the firm as the Case Manager for Nursing Home Medicaid and VA Aid & Attendance. Tyrone was born and raised in the small town of Alamogordo, New Mexico. He attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, where he majored in Business Management. Tyrone has a passion for helping people secure assets for their future, as well as plan for retirement. It is Tyrone’s belief that while helping preserve individual assets is very important, the most important asset you can protect and take care of is yourself! His compassionate attitude is depicted in the professionalism and respect he gives to our clients and their families. Tyrone’s previous work experience includes over 10 years as an Investment Advisor and Insurance Agent with fortune two hundred and fortune five hundred companies and upholds his dedication to assisting and guiding others through his work.

Tyrone played college level baseball while he attended Sul Ross State University and remains very active in the youth sports community with the hope of encouraging the next generation of athletes. He enjoys spending as much time with his family and friends as possible and also has a passion for hunting and all outdoor actives. Tyrone’s attention to detail and his ability to care for others is an outstanding fit as our Case Manager for Nursing Home Medicaid and VA Aid & Attendance.

James Strizak

Client Services

James Strizak joined our team in September 2014 and oversees business development and client services. His duties include but are not limited to client interviews, benefits recommendations, public relations and scheduling public speaking engagements throughout San Antonio, Georgetown, Sun City, Amarillo, and all of New Mexico.

James met Mr. Marquardt in 2010 while James was working for a financial services office. His clients raved about Marquardt Law Firm so much, James applied for a permanent position with the firm. James’ passion for helping Veterans and the elderly began because he was raised as an Air Force dependent. James’ love for his country led him to serve in the Marine Corps infantry for two enlistments and five overseas deployments as a Sergeant. James attended the University of Maryland, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Monterrey Peninsula College all while serving in the Marine Corps. Upon being discharged, he attended St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.

James has been happily married for 26 years to his wife Jennifer and he has four children. He is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and a returning member of the Marine Corps League and 1st Marine Division Association.

Kathryn Granados

Paralegal

Kathryn Granados is a paralegal. She focuses on helping Malia Ploetz, our drafting attorney, and Todd A. Marquardt with estate plans and trusts.

She decided to become a paralegal because she took part of the paralegal course in her younger years and decided it was time to complete it. She decided on being a paralegal as a means of bettering herself, her education and her life.

She enjoys being a paralegal because of the challenge of assisting an attorney, the understanding of fighting for a cause, believing your client deserves justice or just plain assistance in managing the future after they are no longer living. She is passionate about helping and giving to others. There are many who are unable to do for themselves. It takes one helping hand to change a life.

She is a mother of three grown men, one who serves our U.S. Marines as a SSGT/Drill Instructor. They have blessed her with three wonderful grand-daughters. She has a very supportive family and is blessed with good friends who have been her support group for years. They have seen her create goals and have seen her achieve them. She is truly blessed. She enjoys spending her leisure time with friends and family. Just living life to the fullest.  

Barbara McKinney

Litigation Paralegal

Barbara E. McKinney is a paralegal. She focuses on helping J.K. Ivey in our litigation department.

Barbara started her paralegal career at Thornton, Summers, Beichlin, Dunham and Brown assisting Robert B. Summers, Board Certified in Personal Injury and Civil Trial Law. Their practice was mainly defense in products liability lawsuits and catastrophic injury cases. Their clients included Riddell Football Helmets, Coleman Products, Revlon, Aluminum Company of American, Mastercraft Boats and many Fortune 500 clients. Barbara traveled across the State of Texas to numerous venues assisting Mr. Summers at trials. She worked for Robert B. Summers for 32 years until his retirement.

Barbara then worked for Charles B. Gorham in his general business practice. Mr. Gorham’s practice consisted of divorce, probate, bankruptcy and business liquidation litigation. She worked for Charles B. Gorham for ten years until his retirement.

Barbara loves using her experience to benefit the clients of the Marquardt Law Firm.

Barbara is married to a retired Air Force Technical Sergeant, the mother of one adult daughter who is an attorney practicing here in San Antonio. Two of her grandsons are presently in law school at St. Mary’s University. Barbara and her husband volunteer with Guide Dogs of Texas participating in their Puppy Raising Program and Puppy Sitting Program. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and various craft projects.

Virginia Yanez

Director of Government Benefits, Nursing Home Medicaid and Veterans Aid & Attendance

Virginia served as our Director of Public Benefits from March 2013 to November 2014, took time to work for Texas Workforce Commission, and rejoined Marquardt Law Firm, P.C. in June 2015. After a brief sabbatical to work for Buena Vida Nursing Home, she returned again in March 2017. Virginia’s extensive knowledge and understanding of the Medicaid process is a valuable asset to our firm. Virginia started her focus on government benefits in 2008 when she worked as a Medicaid Eligibility Specialist for Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Virginia is well known for her patience, attention to detail, strong work ethic, and her positive attitude. Virginia is well respected for her ability to accomplish any task and getting the job done. Her ability to meet deadlines and with 100% accuracy is a great asset. Virginia has a friendly approach, dedication and excellent customer service which has become a valuable asset for Marquardt Law Firm team.


Virginia has a love and passion for gardening and is reflected in her amazing rose garden and her growing Orange Tree. Virginia is a member of the National Arbor Day Foundation and believes in contributing and giving back to the environment. Virginia is working on becoming more echo friendly in order to preserve her passion for gardening and helping keep the environment clean so generations to come can also enjoy what our world has to offer.

Tatiana Soltero

Records Custodian

Tatiana Soltero is Marquardt Law Firm, P.C.’s records custodian. She never expected to work in a law office. She applied to work with us because she appreciated the law firm’s values. Ms. Soltero is a perfectionist and enjoys attention to detail and organization. She enjoys pursuing excellence as a team. When faced with the challenge of completing a project, she takes the opportunity to learn as much as she can.

Ms. Soltero is the youngest of three and the only daughter of her father from Carlsbad, New Mexico and her mother from Corpus Christi, Texas. Her family enjoyed home school and moving back and forth between New Mexico and Texas. She says, “I have an amazing group of friends of various ages and backgrounds, who have taught me a lot and supported me through life’s unexpected events.” As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she is passionate about helping others learn from the Bible about God and what he promises for the future. Her ministry is now leading her to learn to speak Russian. Tatiana also enjoys reading, writing poetry, crafts, cooking, and baking.

Maria Simonson-Dingley

Bookkeeper

Maria Dingley is Marquardt Law Firm’s very own trailblazer for the Georgetown, Texas region. Joining the law firm in November of 2016, Maria is the first member of our satellite office located on Williams Drive in the beautiful city of Georgetown.

Maria loves the Georgetown community and has called Georgetown her home for the past twelve years. Maria is responsible for assisting our attorneys prepare invoices to communicate to our clients what action our staff has taken for them.

Born in Managua, Nicaragua, a calling to be of service to others was instilled in her at an early age. Family and faith are Maria’s main priorities. Maria and her loving husband of 31 years have a son, who is currently attending college. Maria’s faith has guided her to be a light of inspiration and hope to others, whether it is through her Bible sharing and teachings in her community or through her assistance with the elderly or less fortunate in her career.

Maria came to work for the Marquardt Law Firm after her employment at the Housing Authority in Georgetown. During her years at the Housing Authority, Maria helped others by employing the Authority’s mission to provide decent and safe living conditions for less fortunate individuals in the community and to help those less fortunate to become self-sufficient. And, still motivated to be of service to others, Maria is an integral part of our law firm team that helps our clients and their families secure protection and assistance during life’s difficult times as well as plan for future life-changing events.
